Emanuel Cheraskin
1916–2001 · M.D. Cincinnati; D.M.D. Alabama
Chairman of Oral Medicine at UAB, author of 700+ scientific papers and 17 textbooks, and the man who coined "psychodietetics" — the argument that diet shapes mental state.
Cheraskin’s argument was that medicine had set its target too low: that measuring health as the absence of diagnosable disease misses the enormous territory between sick and well, and that nutrition is what moves a person across it.
He held two earned doctorates, chaired a department at a major medical school, and published prolifically in the peer-reviewed literature — an unusual profile on this circuit, and one reason his talks carried weight with audiences that were otherwise sceptical of the movement.
Named Orthomolecular Physician of the Year in 1996.
